Campus Spiritual Life and Care

Nurturing the spiritual life of students on Mercer’s Atlanta campus

Deep within everyone at Mercer University is the need to live a life of meaning, centered on what matters. Whether answered religiously, spiritually, or materially, Mercer allows the freedom of soul and conscience to enter such conversations in the classroom and beyond. Whether studying the health sciences, law, or history, all seek what is true, good, and meaningful. In the public sphere, such conversations are not always welcome, but at Mercer, they are encouraged.

Do not ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

Howard Thurman, American author and philosopher

That is the Mercer difference – every student is invited, regardless of religious beliefs, or lack thereof, to come alive through the search for what is true and meaningful.

Nurturing the spiritual life is essential to the mission of Mercer University, as noted on the University’s webpage dedicated to its mission and vision. Additionally, nurturing spiritual life and support contributes to the health and well-being of the Mercer community, “to inspire members of our community to live virtuous and meaningful lives by using their gifts and talents to serve the needs of humankind as an expression of their love for God and neighbor.”
